Position/consultancy:LOCAL CO-ORDINATOR (NAMIBIA): Regional Science Service Center for climate change and adapted land management in Southern Africa (RSSC)
Details:The RSSC is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), in co-operation especially with Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa, aimed at establishing a Regional Science Service Center for climate change and adapted land management in southern Africa. The RSSC will focus on three thematic areas: climate change, water and land management. The initiative consists of (a) a research programme, (b) a capacity development programme and (c) a regional advisory and information service.

Main Purpose of the Job: The incumbent will: Manage the process to facilitate the establishment of a network of, inter alia, scientists, users of science products, policy-makers, constantly reassessing and developing stakeholder involvement in the RSSC. Support the formulation of national research interests, with transboundary relevance and application, within areas like climate change, water, land use, biodiversity, etc. Manage the process for establishing institutional arrangements within Namibia, and liaising with counterparts in all participating countries.

Qualifications and Experience: At least a postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to development, preferably in Natural or Social Sciences At least ten years of relevant professional experience Proven experience in project management Profound understanding of environmental policy in general, and climate change policy in particular.

This is a position of significant strategic importance. Candidature is open to Namibian Nationals only.
