4th Jun 2012 - 8th Jun 2012 Insaka Symposium: Managing benefit sharing in changing social ecological system

Insaka is a consortium comprised of five universities including UNAM (Namibia), Copperbelt University (Zambia), Monash (South Africa), UKZN (South Africa) and the University of Montana (Montana, USA). The focus of Insaka is to develop a community of practice for the management of social-ecological systems.

In June 2012 UNAM will be hosting the Insaka Symposium for the first time, to take place in Windhoek, Namibia, from 04 to 08 of June 2012.

The symposium will consist of four sessions:
Session I: Theoretical perspectives on social ecological systems
Session II: Practitioners perspectives on Benefit Sharing: Case studies
Session III: Merging theory and practice
Session IV: Future Research and Capacity building in Southern Africa

Please submit an abstract (250-500 words) before or on the deadline of December 5, 2011. Indicate the session you would like to address.

We invite all people attached to Insaka, and all academics and practitioners in natural resources management, with the passion and commitment to make a contribution to understanding the challenges of managing benefit sharing in changing social-ecological systems, to participate. We are able to host approximately 30-40 participants.

Please, note that presenters will be given preference and the rest will be accommodated on a first come first served basis.

Participants are responsible for their own travel costs to Windhoek, Namibia, as well as their boarding and lodging costs for the duration of their stay. In addition, symposium registration fee (N$800) will be payable to offset conference costs.

The tentative venue of the symposium will be communicated in the 2nd announcement which will be made in February 2012.

We would appreciate if you could confirm your availability to present a Paper or otherwise to participate at the symposium. Confirmations by email should be sent to: apick@unam.na and copied to slendelvo@unam.na and nsiyambango@unam.na.
